Recalled Generators, Camp Showers and Sprouting Seeds: What Preppers Should Pull Now
TL;DR: Stop using the recalled Generac portable generators that have never held fuel or leaked on first fill, the Golden Resale camping showers with immersion heaters, the June-2024 Energizer lanterns, and broccoli-seed lots tied to a 32-illness Salmonella outbreak.
The newest verified action is the October 1, 2026 recall of Portable Camping Showers with a bucket and immersion heater, described by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in Golden Resale Recalls Portable Camping Showers Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Fire Hazard as covering about 400 units sold on Amazon.com and Walmart.com. The same federal recall system also lists an April 16, 2026 portable-generator repair affecting about 149,400 units in the United States, detailed in Generac Power Systems Recalls Portable Generators Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Burn and Fire Hazards. For food self-reliance, the Food and Drug Administration update of October 9, 2026 in Outbreak Investigation of Salmonella: Sprouts (September 2026) warns consumers, restaurants and retailers not to eat, serve or sell recalled lots of broccoli seeds. A related company notice published October 7, 2026 in Eden Brothers Recalls Calabrese Broccoli Seeds Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination identifies packets and bulk sizes tied to supplier lot W4105.

Leak risk and who can keep running
The hazard statement says fuel can leak from the carburetor when first filling the recalled generator with gasoline, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire or burn hazard. Generators that have previously been filled with enough gasoline to move the gauge off “E,” or have been used without any gasoline leakage, can continue to be used.
The firm reported 114 reports of generator fuel leaks. No injuries have been reported.
Units were sold at Home Depot, Lowe’s and other home improvement and hardware stores nationwide and online from May 2025 through February 2026 for between $600 and $1,300. The products were manufactured in Vietnam. The recall number is 26-407.
Required repair step
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Generac portable generator and check model and serial numbers at the Generac recall page. If the unit is included and has either not yet been filled with fuel or exhibited leakage after fueling as described, the notice directs owners to contact the dealer to arrange for free repair at the dealer’s location.

Sprouting seeds linked to multistate outbreak
Outbreak size and strain
The FDA investigation covers Salmonella Bovismorbificans infections linked to broccoli sprouts and microgreens grown from a contaminated seed lot. Total illnesses are listed as 32, with 3 hospitalizations and 0 deaths. Last illness onset was September 3, 2026. States with cases are Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Product distribution is listed as nationwide.
For cases with onset from July 7 to September 3, 2026, CDC and state partners reported that of 27 people interviewed, 26 reported eating sprouts or microgreens. Twenty-two reported specifically eating broccoli sprouts, and one reported eating a microgreen mix containing broccoli microgreens.
FDA said it collected and analyzed a sample of seeds from the supplier identified in the investigation. That sample tested positive and whole genome sequencing analysis showed it matched the outbreak strain. The supplier then conducted a recall of the implicated seed lot and contacted customers.
Recalled seed lots to discard
The October 9, 2026 product list names Gardeners Basics Waltham 29 Broccoli Sprouting Seeds in a white and green resealable pouch, net weight 1 pound (454 g), with UPC 848137042889 and marking “Packed for 2027.” It also names Eden Brothers calabrese broccoli seeds in packets and 1-ounce and 1-pound sizes with Eden Brothers lots 1022067 and 1022068 and supplier lot W4105. It also names Home Grown green sprouting calabrese broccoli seeds, 8-ounce heirloom sold on Amazon, with lot code AUG172026 embossed on the top seal. Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC-brand broccoli sprouts are described as past expiration and no longer available for sale.
Gardeners Basics of Spanish Fork, Utah, is recalling one-pound bags as of October 9, 2026. Those bags were distributed nationwide and sold on Amazon, www.gardenersbasics.com, TikTok Shop, Walmart, eBay and Etsy.
Eden Brothers LLC of Arden, North Carolina, recalled calabrese broccoli seeds on October 7, 2026, after its supplier said lot W4105 may be contaminated with Salmonella. Products use item codes SVBRO111-qb1 for packets, SVBRO111-qb2 for 1 ounce, and SVBRO111-qb4 for 1 pound. Lot numbers are printed on the packet or bag. Sales ran through EdenBrothers.com and Amazon.com from July 8 through September 28, 2026, depending on size, with shipment to customers nationwide. No illnesses have been reported to Eden Brothers to date in that company announcement.
EAK Distribution of Casper, Wyoming, recalled Home Grown green sprouting broccoli seeds on October 2, 2026, after notification of the supplier recall of lot W4105 and the link to the outbreak. Those seeds were sold nationwide through Amazon.com between August 20, 2026, and September 18, 2026.
Symptoms and handling instructions
The FDA says illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating food contaminated with Salmonella, with symptoms usually lasting four to seven days. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Children younger than five, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections.
Eden Brothers states that Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In rare cases infection can enter the bloodstream and cause more severe illness.
Consumers, restaurants and retailers should not use recalled lots of broccoli seeds. Customers who purchased or received recalled sprouts or seeds should carefully clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers they touched. The FDA also advises contacting a health care provider if symptoms resembling Salmonella infection follow eating recalled sprouts or handling recalled seeds.
Home gardeners with recalled Eden Brothers seeds should stop using them and should not plant, sprout, eat or share them, and should not use them to grow microgreens. The company directs owners to seal seeds in a bag and throw them away in household trash rather than compost. Hands and surfaces or containers that touched seeds should be washed. Anyone who shared the seeds should notify recipients. Eden Brothers offers a full refund through a recall reply form with follow-up by a team member. Retailers and distributors should stop distribution, set aside and destroy remaining inventory, notify customers and complete the reply form. Customer service is listed as 855-440-2929 Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET and [email protected].
What to do this week
Check generator side labels against the nine unit-type rows before adding first fuel, because first-fill leakage defines the Generac hazard. Unplug and quarantine the ZAREI-marked shower systems and start the Amazon or Walmart return path for the prepaid package. Pull lantern BGAAL9 units with the June 2024 base code from blackout kits and register them for return rather than discarding batteries curbside. Remove the four broccoli-seed listings above from pantry, garden and resale inventory, sanitize contact surfaces, and use the Eden Brothers reply form or the FDA outbreak page contacts for refunds and updates. Status is listed as ongoing, with the advisory to be updated if additional downstream recalls are initiated.
