TL;DR: Home pantries, nurseries, medicine cabinets and driveways all landed in the federal recall logs for the week ending September 27, 2026, with steering failures, camera blackouts, contaminated foods and faulty batteries leading the list.
Preppers who rotate stock and check lot numbers caught most of these problems early. The newest verified items posted by September 27, 2026 centered on vehicles, Class I meats and cheeses, lithium-ion power gear, and a blood-pressure drug now listed as Class II.
Vehicle recalls led by steering and visibility failures
Steering hardware drove the largest vehicle action of the week. According to Vehicle Service Pros, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling 208,724 vehicles covering model year 2018–2019 Volkswagen Atlas, 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan and 2019–2021 Audi Q3 SUVs. One bolt that attaches the steering rack to the subframe may corrode and break, which can cause the steering rack housing to break. A broken housing can result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the right-side steering rack mounting bolt, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 10, 2026. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 and reference recalls 48LG and 48VT. The campaign is identified as NHTSA Campaign ID 26V590000.
Rear visibility was the second major vehicle theme. According to Vehicle Service Pros, Rivian Automotive, LLC is recalling 98,828 vehicles covering model year 2022–2027 R1S, 2022–2026 R1T and 2027 R2 vehicles. A notification may obstruct the rearview camera image while the vehicle is in reverse, a noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, Rear Visibility. An obstructed image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Rivian has released an over-the-air software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 9, 2026. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261 and reference recall FSAM-1866. The campaign is identified as NHTSA Campaign ID 26V597000.
A separate report from CNBC described the same Rivian issue as covering about 100,700 vehicles, including certain 2022-2026 R1T pickup trucks, 2022-2027 R1S SUVs and 2027 R2 models. That report said the company told Reuters that, in rare instances when stability control is off, a safety prompt asking to re-enable stability control may overlap the rearview camera view when shifting into reverse until the vehicle moves. It also said more than 95% of the affected vehicles have already received a software fix, and all vehicles produced after August 10 already include the updated software.
A second Volkswagen software problem affected newer crossovers. According to Vehicle Service Pros, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling 49,958 model year 2025 Tiguan vehicles. A software error may cause the body control module to reset, switching off the ignition and stalling the engine. A reset can also cause a loss of certain controls, warning lights or exterior lighting, or failure of the rearview camera system, a noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 101, Controls and Displays, and No. 102, Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect, as well as Nos. 108 and 111. Dealers will update the body control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 6, 2026. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 and reference recall 57KL. The campaign is identified as NHTSA Campaign ID 26V587000.
Power systems and seats rounded out the auto list. According to Vehicle Service Pros, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling 23,677 vehicles covering model year 2019–2024 Land Rover Range Rover Sport; 2020–2024 Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport and Defender; 2021–2024 Range Rover Velar and Discovery; and 2021–2024 Jaguar E-Pace and F-Pace. The DC-DC converter may malfunction due to an electrical overload during high power demand, and a software error can cause the converter to stop functioning at vehicle start-up under certain circumstances. Failure results in a loss of 12-volt system charging and can lead to a complete loss of drive power and exterior lighting, increasing the risk of a crash. The action expands previous NHTSA recall 26V248. Dealers will update the vehicle software, free of charge. Interim letters are expected to be mailed November 13, 2026. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 800-637-6837 and reference recall E008. The campaign is identified as NHTSA Campaign ID 26V599000.
According to Vehicle Service Pros, Hyundai Motor America is recalling 5,360 model year 2026 Ioniq 9 vehicles equipped with the Limited, Calligraphy or Calligraphy Design trim package. The second-row power seats may fail to detect a person and continue to move after contacting them during powered seat functions, such as automatic power fold-and-stow. A person, especially a child, may become trapped by a rear power seat, increasing the risk of injury. Owners are advised to use caution when operating the second-row power seat functions, and children are advised not to be in the rear seats or near the rear seating area during power-folding operation. The seat software will be inspected and updated over the air or by a dealer, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 9, 2026.
For vehicle kits, keep the recall letter with the registration, verify the campaign ID before driving to a dealer, and confirm whether the fix is dealer-installed or delivered over the air.
Food recalls hit cheese, chicken stew, sausage and peppers
Raw-milk cheese was the most serious food action for households storing dairy. According to eFoodAlert, Sierra Nevada Cheese Company recalls Sierra Nevada Graziers medium cheddar, sharp cheddar, jalapeno jack, and Monterey jack grass-fed raw milk cheeses in 8oz and 16 oz retail packages and 5-lb foodservice loaves, all lots, due to possible E. coli O26:H11 contamination. For pantry resilience, check package size, pack date and lot code before moving bulk meat, cheese or jars into long-term storage, and keep retail packages until the contents are used.
Lithium-ion gear and nursery products drew fire and ingestion warnings

Store batteries away from heat, use only the charger supplied with the device, and anchor tall furniture if small children visit the home.
Blood-pressure drug and test devices added medical checks
Prescription stocks needed a label check. According to Good Housekeeping, Inventia Healthcare first recalled certain lots of chlorthalidone tablets, which are used to treat high blood pressure, back in June. Then, on September 3, the company initiated a separate recall involving an additional lot of the medication. On September 17, the FDA classified the September recall as Class II. The September recall involves more than 13,000 bottles of one lot due to failed dissolution specifications, which could mean the drug doesn’t dissolve properly and may not work as intended. A Class II recall, according to the FDA, means that if you use or are exposed to a recalled product, you may experience temporary or medically reversible health issues, but the probability of those issues being serious is considered remote.
The September lot is identified in that report as Chlorthalidone tablets, USP, 25 mg, 100 tablets per bottle, Rx only, manufactured by Inventia Healthcare Limited, NDC 64980-599-01, Batch RISA24002, Expiration date 04/2027. The report advises that if you have the recalled medication, contact your healthcare provider or pharmacist before stopping or changing your medication. It also explains that chlorthalidone is a diuretic, or water pill, that makes kidneys shed excess water and salt.
Diagnostic and hospital devices filled the device watch. According to MedTech Current, eight FDA Class II recall events posted 20–26 September 2026 cover pregnancy tests, respiratory and imaging systems, biopsy equipment, surgical kits, embolization devices, and bone cement.
